Laura Nygren (1991) is a double bassist, electronic musician, composer, producer, and contemporary musician. She was born and raised in Guilford, Connecticut in the United States. After eight years of studying the violin, she began seriously studying the double bass at age 18. Laura graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Music from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht in 2015, where she was the student of the prolific bassist Quirijn van Regteren Altena. Laura received her Master of Music from the Conservatory of Amsterdam in 2017. There she followed the Live Electronics course. Her master’s research delved into developing a controller for classical double bassists (for more information please see Glovelet page). In her two years in Amsterdam she began composing and is now the singer, bassist, and front woman for the electro-pop band Katzo. In 2016 she attended Bang on a Can summer music festival. Her former double bass teachers include Joesph Bongiorno, Michael Asetta, and Richard Syracuse. Laura has attended masterclasses with Gary Karr, Matthew McDonald, and Joel Quarrington. She currently resides in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
